Ex-Everton and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has emerged as a possible replacement for Ivan Juric at Roma, but Sky Sport Italia pundits believe the Giallorossi should ignore the former midfielder and pick an Italian coach, such as Massimiliano Allegri or Claudio Ranieri.

Roma confirmed Juric’s sacking on Sunday after a home 3-2 loss against Bologna.

The Croatian boss had won just four games from 12, losing five times

Roma haven’t yet chosen a successor, but the latest report from Sky Sport Italia suggests that the club owners are unwilling to get an Italian boss.

Sky and other sources, such as La Repubblica, say that the Friedkins will probably rely on an external company called CAA Base for a new coach, so foreign options like Lampard and Edin Terzic are among the leading candidates.

Sky Sport Italia pundits analysed the situation on Sunday night, suggesting that Roma should get an Italian tactician who knows Serie A inside out to avoid further problems this term.

The Giallorossi are just four points above the drop zone.

“Lampard’s recent experiences were not extraordinary,” said ex-Lazio keeper Luca Marchegiani.

“He has personality, and perhaps they [the Friedkins] want to hire somebody to lead the team with his charisma.”

The ex-keeper added that Roma owners are probably underestimating the situation and the pressure in the city, so the team would need a coach who is ready for Serie A.

Marchegiani, Riccardo Montolivo and Alessandro Costacurta said Roma should hire ex-Juventus boss Allegri, although it’s unsure whether the Livorno-born tactician would accept an offer from the capital.

Beppe Bergomi suggested Claudio Ranieri, even if the 73-year-old has retired from club football and recently said he’d only consider offers from national teams.

  1. Lampard’s managerial record doesn’t exactly stand out in his home country. The Friedkins’ incompetence knows no bounds.
