Atalanta have officially signed Italy international striker Mateo Retegui from Genoa in a deal worth a reported €28m including add-ons.
The centre-forward became a priority after his Azzurri teammate Gianluca Scamacca was ruled out for six months by a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during a pre-season friendly.
Born in Argentina, Retegui had his medical this morning in Bergamo and put pen to paper on the contract.
He had come to Serie A from Club Atletico Tigre to Genoa last summer for €15m plus performance-related bonuses, though some of that will go to his former club.
According to multiple sources, this move to Atalanta was worth €25m plus another €3m in add-ons.
Retegui career path took him to Italy
The forward turned 25 in April and scored seven goals with two assists in his debut Serie A season.
He had also been linked with Bologna and Juventus, but chose Atalanta to continue his career path under coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Pretty good fee for Genoa, given he didn’t score many.
But he should get more opportunities to score at Atalanta.
