Evan Ndicka is out of the Roma squad for tomorrow’s Europa League match with Union Saint-Gilloise, so Mats Hummels is expected to get his first start.
It kicks off at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Thursday at 17.45 GMT.
Coach Ivan Juric is still desperately trying to keep hold of his job after a run of terrible results.
That continued in Serie A on Sunday with the 3-2 defeat to Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.
Despite reports the club has been scouting around for potential replacements, Juric remains at the helm for this Europa League trip to Belgium.
However, defender Ndicka will not be going along, as he has become the latest Giallorossi player to succumb to flu symptoms.
Along with the centre-back, Mario Hermoso and Alexis Saelemaekers are also out of action due to injury.
This means Hummels could be granted only his second appearance in the Roma jersey since joining as a free agent in September.
His only experience was 23 minutes during the Serie A 5-1 defeat to Fiorentina on October 27.
There are reports that Enzo Le Fée will be rested in favour of Bryan Cristante in midfield, with Stephan El Shaarawy and Matias Soulé pushing to start upfront.
It remains to be seen if Artem Dovbyk or Eldor Shomurodov will lead the way initially.
