Cristiano Giuntoli insists Juventus ‘believe’ in Kenan Yildiz but must ‘accept highs and lows’ and says the new centre-back the Bianconeri will sign in January must be ‘ready to challenge himself.’

Giuntoli spoke to Sky Sport Italia from a Charity Dinner organised by former Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini on Monday evening.

The Bianconeri sit 6th in the Serie A table but are just two points below table leaders Napoli. They are still unbeaten in the league and won the last two consecutive matches.

“Having many teams up there is good for everyone because it increases interest,” Giuntoli said.

“We need some time; we’ve had a bit too many injuries, but thanks to the coach and the lads, we are still there, trying not to stop dreaming.

“We are pleased with the efforts of the coach and the players. We’ve changed a lot, and we’ve started from scratch,” he continued.

“It was not easy. We are the second-youngest team in the league, so we are really happy; we must continue week in, week out.”

Manuel Locatelli has returned to Italy’s national team to replace the injured Samuele Ricci.

“Locatelli is an extraordinary lad. He has great technical qualities, is smart, and knows how to move on the pitch,” noted Giuntoli.

“I think Motta can enhance his qualities, and this is proof.”

At the same time, Locatelli’s teammate Nicolò Savona received his first senior Italy call-up.

“We are happy and proud of Savona. He has extraordinary technical, physical, and mental qualities,” said the Juventus director.

“We must thank the Juventus world for his development, and we must thank him too. He is very focused, keeps his feet on the ground, and will make everyone talk about him.”

Kenan Yildiz scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Torino on Saturday.

“Yildiz is the No.10; we’ve always believed in him,” insisted Giuntoli.

“He has excellent qualities but was born in 2005, so we must wait and accept the ups and downs. It takes patience. He’s a young lad, and he’s doing well, so we are happy.”

Giuntoli said last month that Juventus’ priority is to sign a new centre-back in the January transfer window to replace the injured Gleison Bremer.

“We are looking around; we know the January window is tricky because things can change suddenly,” he claimed.

“We are assessing a few situations, but there isn’t a primary option because it’s still too early. It’s the truth. We are not in advanced talks with anyone in particular. Surely, he [the new signing] must be an available player, ready to challenge himself and ready to join an important club like Juventus.”
